Platinum Club Trip - Crete

Incentivising top Europe sales teams with an all inclusive free annual trip

The Brief

The UK & Ireland’s leading network of hydraulic hose experts, today operating from regional centres nationwide and across Europe. To incentivise sales teams across Europe, Pirtek rewards the top teams across Europe with an all-inclusive free annual trip. These trips are well planned out with daily experiences and amazing locations to visit.

For the Crete 2023 trip, I was requested by Caroline (Event Coordinator) to create some event materials that would be used by the guest during their time in destination. These consisted of a welcome card upon arrival to the hotel, a guest booklet with information of the whole trip agenda and dinner menus for each of the evening dinning restaurant’s. All of these event material also need to be printed in three languages of English, German and Dutch as these native languages of the winning teams.

The Solution

In discussions with Caroline, she would provide the information, translations, and guidance on correct imagery to use. The general art direction would be up to me to plan and execute. One parameter that I had to keep in mind was creating layouts that would need to accommodate for the extra characters within the Dutch and German languages.

Obviously, the theme of all the material would follow the Greek colours of blue and white with splashes of popping Mediterranean imagery. I also wanted to bring in the pattern known as meander also referred to as Greek key. The basic form of a linear pattern. I created my own version of this, applying it as either a faded background or strip pattern. In the guest booklet I also included some faded Greek myth themed illustrations to add some extra detail on pages that would look otherwise bare. On general information pages in the back pages, I decided against extra details in case of guests misunderstanding key or emergency information. The imagery selected carefully for the bright vibrant visuals they provided to best represent Crete, adding the splash of Mediterranean colour. With the menus, these were kept simple as they were being used on a one-time bases during evening meals. So, I included some simple Greek food line illustrations inside and out of the menus.

The event material was a great success with the guests. They loved having a pocket size guide that they could refer to on the trip, showing them exactly what they would be doing each day. Many of the guest commented that they would be taking there guide book home as a memento of the fantastic event or using it to plan future personal trips back to Crete.

“One short brief and Lewis was able to deliver gold

I have worked with Lewis as my designer for a number of years and can say without reservation and great joy that his will always be my first port of call for any design work. Lewis’s skill is making the words and images come alive in a way that I’ve not seen before in my industry of Event Management. For example, on the Crete trip I managed last year Lewis not only put together the most beautiful menus, booklet and launch brochure from the information I supplied him with, it was the way he created a watermark for all the pages with just boring writing that just sat perfectly and beautifully with the story of our destination. One short brief and Lewis was able to deliver gold, he understands a brief like no-one I’ve ever worked with before. Considering that I operate in three languages he manages to ensure that all the creative work looks the same, no idea how he does it and so quickly and accurately too. Lewis’s attention to detail and artistic eye is stunning, and his ability to produce quality work for print or screen is something that I am extremely grateful for.
